We built the record first.

Strata began with a simple observation: every team already had somewhere to put documents, and none of them could prove what happened to one.

  • Founded 2021
  • 62 people
  • 9 countries

Strata started in a validation office, watching a quality manager email the same protocol to eleven people and then spend two weeks working out which reply held the current revision.

The tooling existed. Shared drives, wikis, e-signature add-ons, a folder called FINAL_v3_USE_THIS. What none of it did was hold the one thing an auditor actually asks for: an unbroken account of who changed what, when, and on whose authority.

So we built the record first and the interface second. Every action in Strata writes an entry that cannot be edited afterwards. Everything else — the folder tree, the metadata, the approval chain — exists to make that record accurate without anyone having to think about it.

01 — How We Work01 / 07

Four things we refuse to trade away.

These are not posters on a wall. They are the arguments we keep having, written down so we stop having them twice.

01

The record is the product

Features are judged by whether they make the audit trail more complete. If a shortcut would leave a gap, it does not ship.

02

Permission is granted, never assumed

New members start with nothing. Access is an explicit act, scoped to a project, revocable in one click and logged both ways.

03

Boring where it counts

Document control is infrastructure. It should be predictable, legible and unsurprising — the excitement belongs in your work, not your filing.

04

Built for the person who gets audited

Our design partner is never the buyer alone. It is the document controller who has to answer the question at eight in the morning.

02 — Milestones02 / 07

Five years, in order.

  1. 2021

    First line of code

Two engineers and a document controller prototype an immutable event log for document state.

  2. 2022

    First tier-one contractor

A main contractor runs an interchange rebuild entirely inside Strata.

  3. 2023

    SOC 2 Type II

Independent audit completed; continuous monitoring goes into production.

  4. 2024

    Approval chains

Multi-reviewer sign-off with routed rejection ships to every plan.

  5. 2026

    Form builder

Drag-and-drop templates bring structured capture into the same approval engine.
